Lodging Stocks End the Week Higher

Hilton and Hallmark Launch Christmas-Themed Partnership

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc has entered into a partnership with Hallmark Channel to create Christmas-themed suites inspired by Hallmark’s “Countdown to Christmas” movies. The Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas has completed phase one of a multimillion-dollar property-wide transformation. This includes a redesign of all 389 guestrooms and suites and upgrades to meeting and event spaces. Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe, located in South Lake Tahoe, California, has announced its December 14th opening date. The transformation of the former Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel into a Margaritaville property cost over $70 million.

Business Travel Close to a Full Recovery

JP Morgan downgraded IHG Hotels & Resorts from Neutral to Underweight, favoring Premier Inn owner Whitbread in the European hotels sector. Canada has 275 hotel construction projects with 37,780 rooms in its pipeline, with 22 new projects announced in Q3. Ontario leads with 160 projects, and Toronto has the most projects with 61. A total of 16 new hotels opened in the first three quarters of 2023, with more expected in the last quarter and beyond. The latest GBTA Business Travel Outlook Poll reports that domestic business travel bookings have reached 75% of 2019 levels, while international bookings are at 70%. Spending on domestic business travel is at 77%, and international spend is at 74%.

Marriott Adds 3 Premium Hotels in Vietnam

ForwardKeys data reveals that Asia Pacific destinations have seen a travel recovery of over 50% of pre-pandemic international arrivals in the first three quarters of the year, with fourth-quarter bookings improving. Marriott International has opened three premium brand hotels in Vietnam, expanding its portfolio to 19 hotels in the country. S Hotels and Resorts will invest $27 million in renovating resorts in Thailand and Fiji, including upgrades to three SAii Resorts and Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, with renovations starting in 2023 and premium rooms available for booking from December 2023.

Ultraluxury Resort Boom in Japan

Asian ultraluxury resort companies are expanding into Japan to cater to wealthy overseas travelers and take advantage of the weak yen, with Soneva Holdings planning to open resorts in Japan by 2027 and investing 100 billion yen in new properties. Accor Forecasts Robust Revenue and Profit for 2023

PEB reported better-than-expected 3Q results, but concerns arose from their commentary about a cooling US leisure demand and a weak 4Q guidance. Accor anticipates full-year RevPAR growth of over 20%, with strong 3Q RevPAR growth in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific segments. Choice Tells Wyndham to Reconsider

Choice Hotels has urged Wyndham Hotels to consider a merger, but Wyndham has firmly declined any interest in the proposal. The chairman of Wyndham revealed they almost acquired Choice Hotels 20 years ago. The U.S. construction pipeline shows growth, with over 5,700 projects and 672,000 rooms, driven by a strong upper midscale chain scale presence. Renovation and conversion projects are on the rise, and new hotel openings are expected to increase in the coming years.
