The report outlines growth in hotel construction in the Asia Pacific region, highlighting leading countries and cities outside China and forecasts for new hotel openings. The Maldives sees significant international tourist numbers from Russia, India, and China, while Thailand explores controversial plans involving Chinese police presence at tourist spots. Various hotel chains including YOTEL, Radisson, Katrina Group, and Sage Hospitality announce new projects, expansions, or management agreements across Asia Pacific regions.

JLL’s Hotel Momentum India  report said a total of 59 hotels comprising around 4,700 keys were signed in  India  in the last quarter. Hilton  announced some of their 2024 planned openings in the  Asia Pacific region. First up will be  Conrad Singapore Orchard  on January 1. The  Sri Lanka Convention Bureau  is working to establish the country’s Northern province as a destination for MICE for South  India .

Accor is rebranding 23 Daiwa Resorts properties in Japan as Mercure and Grand Mercure hotels in 2024. The first Hyatt Place hotel in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, is now open, connected to Paradigm Mall. Swiss-Belhotel International rebranded an upscale property in Surabaya, Indonesia, as the Grand Swiss-Belhotel Darmo.

The Philippines is close to reaching its annual goal of 4.8 million tourist arrivals, with nearly 4.1 million arrivals in the first 10 months of 2023. South Korea remains the top source of inbound tourists. Hotel prices in Malaysia may increase by 30% due to a rise in the Sales and Services Tax, excluding food and beverages or telecommunications. Consumers are expected to pay higher room rates. Sri Lanka anticipates its best tourism year in 2024, with exceeding arrival and revenue targets for this year. Plans to accommodate higher arrivals include expanding accommodation in Colombo and other areas.

China experiences a significant year-over-year increase in hotel **RevPAR**, while **India** anticipates robust growth in the hotel industry, driven by domestic and international tourism. Sri Lanka aims to revive its economy by offering free tourist visas to visitors from seven countries, as it targets five million foreign arrivals by 2026. Major hotel chains like Marriott, Hilton, and Red Planet are expanding their presence in Asia, while Sarovar Hotels opens an upscale Golden Tulip in Bhopal, India.

Macau's Golden Week holiday saw a surge in visitors, with over 932,000 arrivals and high hotel occupancy rates, mainly driven by mainland Chinese tourists. Indonesia plans a significant expansion in its tourism sector, aiming to attract up to $8 billion in investments for specific destinations. Several new hotel properties by Accor and Hilton are announced in countries including Australia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.

Chinese hotel RevPAR surged by 59.6% YoY but remained 5.1% below 2019 levels for the week ending September 16th. The Philippines is close to surpassing its 2023 tourist arrival target, with 3.87 million foreign visitors contributing Php316.9 billion in revenue. Thailand aims to attract a record 40 million tourists in 2023 through visa-free systems, promotional efforts, and expanding direct flights, targeting international travelers with a focus on Chinese visitors.

Chinese Hotel Performance: Hotel RevPAR in China increased by 37% compared to the same week last year, despite a strong 107.7% increase from a year ago. In comparison to 2019, RevPAR rose by 16.9%. Chinese Travelers in Singapore : Chinese tourists were the largest source of visitors to Singapore in July, doubling their numbers from June. Singapore experienced a 104.2% increase in visitor arrivals from China, contributing to a 95.3% year-on-year rise in total arrivals for the month. Hotel Openings and Expansions : Accor is partnering with Sarin Hotels for a new Sebel hotel in Wellington, New Zealand; Hotel Marvell, Byron Bay's first five-star hotel, is opening with luxurious amenities; Melco Resorts' W Macau hotel will open in Macau's Studio City with 557 rooms; and Narai Hospitality Group is set to open Lub d Japan Osaka Honmachi, expanding their presence globally.

Accor Pacific's partners have invested over $300 million in hotel renovations and refurbishments across various locations in the Pacific region to enhance guest satisfaction and maintain a leading position in the industry. Centara Udon in Thailand underwent renovations and now offers remodeled facilities, new dining options, and event spaces. S Hotels and Resorts PCL is set to open SO/ Maldives , a new resort on a private island with beachfront and over-water pool villas, and various dining venues in November 2023.

Philippines aims to become a tourism powerhouse with a new slogan "Love the Philippines" and a five-year plan to boost visitor numbers. Mandarin Oriental in Guangzhou introduces child-friendly MiniMO Jungle Suites and Rooms with themed decor and exclusive amenities. Pan Pacific Hotels Group plans to open Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Bangkok in 2026, featuring 191 suites and leisure spaces.
